Description:
Co-nect is a consulting company dedicated to improving and sustaining student achievement through Professional Development. It works with all types of schools, many of which already have an improvement plan in place. Co-nect customizes its approach according to the needs and characteristics of individual schools and assists them in meeting or exceeding existing objectives that may already be in place. Support includes a combination of onsite, offsite and web-based training and other resources (www.co-nect.net).

Goal:
To help teachers, students and administrators achieve academic excellence.

Approach:
Co-nect's comprehensive school reform plan includes the following components:

  1. Leadership Development
  2. assessment and evaluation
  3. Curriculum Focus
  4. Classroom Strategies
  5. Family and Community

A Diagnostic Test to determine your school's most critical needs can be taken through the site at: http://www.co-nect.net/services/diagnostic.shtml

Site lists resource links regarding school reform, the department of education, general education and funding/grant writing at: http://www.co-nect.net/funding/resources.shtml

research:
Researchers from Boston College compared 24 Co-nect schools with schools from a demongraphically similar district. Although most Co-nect schools showed some amount of improvement and 4 consistently showed significant improvements over comparison schools, changes in test scores overall did not differ greatly from site to site. (www.nwrel.org)

One study conducted by researchers from the Universities of Memphis and Tennessee found that four Co-nect schools in Memphis improved on the Tennessee Comprehensive Assessment System in all subject areas from the years 1995-98. While the change in comparison to control schools was not statistically significant it was considered to be a "moderately large effect size" and noticeabely higher gain scores were seen in a follow-up conducted in 1999.
